Japanese Language Courses
Japanese language courses are a requirement for all JSP students. With smaller class sizes JSP students receive more student-teacher interaction, which is one of the many benefits and opportunities you will have to enhance your overall Japanese language skills. JSP students will study in classes with E-track students, who are regular full-time students at TIU.
Combined with a homestay and other tutoring services available on campus, your language ability will advance rapidly and comprehensively. Students already possessing advanced Japanese-language abilities may apply to take regular courses taught in Japanese.
Courses are offered at various levels, from beginner to advanced. Your level will be determined by a placement test designed to find a course that is the perfect fit for you:
- For very beginner level, we offer Elementary Japanese 1A and 1B. These courses are 4 credits each and are offered on a quarter basis. 1A is offered in the first quarter and 1B is offered in the second quarter. These are intensive classes averaging 200 minutes per day, 4 days per week.
- For other levels, we offer 4-credit Elementary to Advanced Japanese courses and 2-credit Upper Advanced and Business Japanese courses. Classes run on a semester basis, with 100-minute daily sessions four days a week for 4-credit courses and two days a week for 2-credit courses.
